The role of the Coaching Department is to prepare current and former players for a secondary career within the professional game possibly within coaching or management.
In fact over 70% of PFA members claim a desire to stay within football when their playing days are over and the Coaching Department therefore has a big role to play in their development.
The Department works hard to ensure that there is a fair geographical spread of coaching courses throughout the country. Furthermore we try to run them at times which allow access to all members whether they are still playing or not.
The Department is responsible for the delivery of the Coach Education Programme within the professional game. The FA/UEFA qualifications (Level 2 and UEFA B) are delivered at both club sites and regional venues across the country. These courses are all subsidised for all current and former players.
The Coaching Department is staffed by former players who understand the needs of the professional game and the courses are exclusive to current and former players. They are run at a time and location to suit a busy playing/training schedule and the support on offer is tailored to the members’ needs.
We have ten regional staff who regularly visit clubs to work with young scholars (apprentices) delivering Level 2 courses, and these visits afford the opportunity to make communication with the senior professionals.
So if you want information on coaching and management our advice to members is to speak to the PFA first – our staff have the experience and expertise to make your career decisions easier.
The Coaching Department also works closely with The Football Association in the coordination and delivery of the following annual residential courses:
- FA/UEFA A Advance Licence Coaching Award
- FA/UEFA Pro Licence
Our advice for players is to search out these qualifications while you are still playing not when your career is over or coming to an end. Our courses are run by the professionals for the professionals so make the most of the service available.
