Mark Bertram (2008-2011 BA Sports development and coaching 2012-2014, MSC Professional practice of sports coaching)

"Having been released from Newcastle United I decided to take up the opportunity of a scholarship at Northumbria University to study and play football. The programme provided a professional environment to further develop as a footballer through engaging in a comprehensive training programme alongside receiv-ing a top class education. I studied for 5 years doing an undergraduate and postgraduate course, during this time I have developed the knowledge and skills to find employment in sports industry. Since finishing my study I have secured a role as a graduate tutor in sports coaching at Northumbria University, as well as a part-time academy coach at Newcastle United Football Club.  Studying at Northumbria made this possible.”

Luke Hannant (2013-2016 BA Sport & exercise science with coaching)

"Once being released from Cambridge United I chose to accept a footballing scholarship offered to me by Northumbria University. The program was like one of a professional standard, everything was put into place to help me achieve great things after university life. I benefited greatly from first class football facilities, be-ing involved in a talented squad, physiotherapy treatment, S&C training, performance analysis, recovery sessions, psychology support, sports nutrition, academic support and of course quality coaching.

All of this, alongside a first class education, helped me achieve a 2:1 degree in Sport & Exercise Science and my boyhood dream of becoming a professional footballer."
